1949The Founding
Karl Krämmer opens the Berghaus Sonnenfels and runs it successfully as an inn with guest rooms for almost two decades – at a time when the Arber was still sparsely developed.

1950sA Base for Hikers and Skiers
The terrace, the house entrance, and the surrounding ski infrastructure take shape – historic photographs document mountain life during this era.

1963A Fixed Place on the Arber
The mountain hut becomes established as a popular meeting point for summer visitors and winter sports enthusiasts alike.

1972–1993Leasing and Transition
From 1972 the house is leased out for over 20 years, before being taken over in 1993 – after a brief closure – by Claudia and Günther Pusel, the founder's granddaughter and her husband.

1996Major Renovation
Claudia and Günther Pusel rebuild and thoroughly renovate the mountain hut – and run it with great personal dedication for the following 29 years.

2021/2022A New Chapter
After 29 years, Claudia and Günther Pusel retire. BiWO Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH takes over the mountain hut and continues running it through Sonnenfels Gastro GmbH – with long-standing, familiar staff.

2025The Dining Room Today
The dining room is thoroughly renovated – cosy wood, large tables for groups, and the same view over the Bavarian Forest as more than 70 years ago.
"Regulars Became Friends"
The Bayerwald-Bote spoke with Claudia and Günther Pusel about 29 years as innkeepers at Berghaus Sonnenfels – about "Herzerl" parties, the 2006 snow disaster, and saying goodbye to the Großer Arber.
