A Mountain Hut for the Whole Family
Whether it's a summer hike, a run through Bikepark Arber, or a day of skiing in winter – the Berghaus Sonnenfels mountain hut has been a fixed point on the Großer Arber since 1949. Traditional Bavarian cuisine, a large sun terrace and a warm-hearted team await you at 1,150 m.
In 2025 we thoroughly renovated our dining room – cosy wood, large tables for groups, and the same view over the Bavarian Forest as more than 70 years ago.

Summer & Hiking
Sun terrace with a view over the Bavarian Forest, hiking trails from Brennes, Bayerisch-Eisenstein, Bodenmais and the Kleiner Arbersee.
Winter & Skiing
Right on the blue slope in the Arber family ski area – 13 km of pistes, 9 lifts, one of the most snow-reliable areas in Germany.
Mountain Bike & E-Bike
Reachable only by bike or on foot. Charging station for 6 e-bikes and right next to Bikepark Arber.
Leon's Arber Hütte
Our rustic mountain hut right next door – space for 40 people, available to hire for private celebrations.
Sun Terrace & New Adventure Playground
Whether it's a relaxed afternoon with a view over the Bavarian Forest or romping around on the new playground right at the forest's edge – families with children of all ages will find their place here.
